RAFFLES AT THE OWO
Decoration of the turreted private dining room of Kioku Restaurant in the Raffles OWO Hotel, inside Whitehall's Old War Office which once housed the British government's military departments.
With Kioku meaning "memory" in Japanese, our brief was to capture sushi master Endo Kazutoshi's recollections of living and working in Japan. Referencing awa-ai indigo inks and lunar symbolism, we designed an artwork which combines the texture of woven cloth with watery layers of ink, with a central moon. The mural lifts the ceiling into the sky, overlooking the rooftops of London.
Ceiling design in collaboration with interior designer Pirajean Lees, Photography by Polly Tootall
